Silk Faced Geisha Doll- c. 1950

A beautiful dancing geisha doll with a silk face, hands and costume. c. 1950

A beautiful dancing geisha doll with a silk face, hands and costume. c. 1950 Glass case included. At the end of the war, a type of doll that could easily be taken home by American GIs was developed. Traditional Japanese dolls were too easily breakable, time-consuming to make and not readily appreciated by the young American soldiers looking for souvenirs. This doll was a type that was made completely of silk and could be made by less-skilled craftsmen. Plus, the fact that it was silk had a great appeal to the American market. This doll is in very good condition and has recently had a glass bell-jar case made to measure for the doll.
